Tom has been carving and creating since about 2000. He was inspired and taught by his father in law a master carver on Haida Gwaii.
The pieces started small and functional with hair pieces and small pendants from wood and bone as time allowed, working a full time career in the seafood business on the west coast. After living briefly on Haida Gwaii with his family it was time to try something new.
In 2005 on the family's return to Vancouver he tried his hand at some larger pieces. The Brucite bowl above was one of the first completed pieces using hammer and chisel and is now sitting in his sisters home in Calgary AB. This is the piece that caused Tom to fall in love with stone and stone carving.
2013 was the year that everything changed! It was in September that Tom had the opportunity to make family and carving a priority and he was able to back away from the seafood industry. Being able to follow his passion only came with the support of his best friend and soul mate, Michelle. This was also the year he discovered Jade. This incredible mineral is almost an obsession now and is constantly on his mind. Keep watching for more Jade creations on the Jade page.
